Description
Lockheed C-130E Hercules (A97-159)
37 Squadron, RAAF
The C-130E Hercules offered significant performance improvement over the C-130A. Twelve aircraft were purchased to equip 37 Squadron. The first of these aircraft, A97-159, arrived at RAAF Base Richmond in August 1966. The C-130E became the RAAF’s primary strategic airlifter. Over its 34 year career with 37 Squadron it performed a multitude of tasks around the globe, including evacuation of orphans from Vietnam under Operation ‘Babylift’, and supporting peace-keeping efforts as far afield as Sinai, Kashmir, Somalia and East Timor.
