Australia was the first operator of the C-130 Hercules outside the USA. The first of Australia’s C-130A Hercules arrived in December 1958 and the type served with 36 Squadron until 1978. During this time they supported Australian deployment to Vietnam, and flew many humanitarian flights including disaster relief after Cyclone Tracey (Darwin 1974). The aircraft depicted on this print, A97-205, was the first C-130A to arrive in Australia and flew 36 Squadron’s 100,000th accident-free flying hour in November 1972. It is shown as it appeared towards the end of its service life.
